At Compass Psychology, we offer comprehensive assessments for children (ages 6 and up) in Calgary including, learning, ADHD, autism, and giftedness. These assessments can help parents and teachers understand how to help a particular child with learning, self-regulation, and social interactions. Assessments can also help parents and teachers determine what type of educational supports may be the best fit for a child.
Learning
Learning (Psychoeducational Assessment) (approximately 12-14 billable hours)
Learning assessments help children identify why they may have difficulty learning, remembering, and retaining information. If a child has challenges with reading, writing, and/or math; assessing for a possible learning disability may be helpful in determining the root of the problem and how it can be managed. Learning assessments for students can help improve self-awareness about their unique learning needs and may grant them access to accommodations and supports in the classroom and at home. If a formal diagnosis is made based on assessment results, recommendations can be made for home, school, and with the transition to post-secondary and/or the workplace.

ADHD
ADHD (approximately 8-10 billable hours)
An assessment for ADHD may be appropriate when a child or teen has ongoing difficulties with meeting their potential due to challenges with focus, concentration, planning, organization, time management, impulsive behavior and/or physical restlessness. Children may benefit from an ADHD assessment if they have difficulty with focusing on homework, becoming easily frustrated, remembering to complete tasks, and acting without thinking of consequences. ADHD assessments for children and teens can help improve self-awareness about their attention challenges and may grant them access to accommodations and supports at school and in the community.

Giftedness
Intellectual Giftedness (approximately 10-12 billable hours)
Sometimes children present with thinking and reasoning abilities that are far beyond those of their typical peers. While giftedness is not a disability, it is a unique learning profile that should be understood so that supports and enrichment opportunities can be made available. Children and teens may benefit from a giftedness assessment if they are showing academic skills that are stronger than their same aged peers, and if they require more challenging educational experiences.

Autism
Autism (approximately 10-12 billable hours)
An assessment for autism may be beneficial when a child struggles to interact with others appropriately, has black and white/inflexible thinking patterns, sensory sensitivities, and/or strong and unique interests. Children and teens who have these challenges may benefit from an autism assessment to gain self-awareness and learn strategies for navigating the social world. A child/teen with a formal diagnosis of autism may be eligible for accommodations and supports at school, home, and the community.
